Dewan's Story - When Care Comes Full Circle

Dewan Boney has spent her life caring for others, as a former medical assistant and later a daycare provider. She now faces daily health challenges of her own. Living with diabetes, COPD, and the loss of both her vision and hearing, Dewan can no longer work and requires dialysis three times a week. Without the ability to drive and on a limited income, simply getting to treatment became overwhelming.

Thanks to the Catch a Ride Network, Dewan can continue her treatments with dignity. Referred through a partnership between Richland Library, The COMET and Catch a Ride, Dewan is a part of a network for medical transportation for seniors and individuals with disabilities in Richland and Lexington counties. “The drivers treat me with respect and are always there when I need them,” Dewan shares.

Once the one giving help, she now receives it, reminding us how powerful compassionate support can be when it matters most.
